La Federación de Asociaciones Municipales de Bolivia (FAM) y la organización The Natural Conservancy están en la etapa final del diseño del proyecto, denominado " Biodiversidad y Desarrollo Municipal".
La propuesta pretende al menos lograr crear áreas municipales de conservación en 14 municipios piloto en Bolivia, seis en Perú y por lo menos tres en Chile. En el caso boliviano además se prevé que estas áreas incorporen sistemas productivos sostenibles que promuevan el desarrollo económico local
Las actividades que se desarrollarán en los próximos cinco años, como señala el borrador de la propuesta, se concentrará en que que los municipios construyan modelos de gestión de la biodiversidad, valorando la conservación de la naturaleza como parte del desarrollo sostenible municipal.
"Conservación no sólo se debe hacer en áreas protegidas", es uno de los principios del proyecto cuyo borrador fue socializado con diversas instituciones del sector en un encuentro realizado este martes en La Paz.
Otras actividades previstas en la propuesta tienen que ver con tareas de educación ambiental en los municipios, promover mecanismos permanentes de intercambio de experiencias de gestión y fortalecer las capacidades de gestión ambiental en las alcaldías.
Los municipios bolivianos que formarían parte de la ejecución piloto son Reyes, Santa Rosa, La Paz, Coroico, El Choro, Tomave, Tupiza, Padcaya, El Villar, Huacareta, Cuevo, Camiri, Cabezas y Pailón.
