EcoSecurities Ltd, the world’s leading originator, developer and trader of carbon credit projects, today announces that it has opened an office in México to focus on the origination and implementation of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in Central America.
The operation will be managed by Gabriel Quadri de la Torre, who was previously head of Environmental Planning for México City Government as well as being Director General for Environmental Regulation at México’s National Institute of Ecology. The launch marks another step in EcoSecurities global expansion strategy following the significant capital investment by Cargill and MSM Capital Partners in August. EcoSecurities already has a presence in the UK, the US, the Netherlands, Brazil and Malaysia and currently has over 75 CDM projects in development around the world.
México, which is one of the world’s largest developing economies, is posed to become one of the key world players in the development of CDM carbon projects, on a par with China, India and Brazil. EcoSecurities is already pursuing more than 10 projects in the country involving a number of different technologies, including a major landfill methane capture project at Aguas Calientes.
Bruce Usher, CEO of EcoSecurities, said: “Mexico is rapidly becoming a highly competitive market, demanding full technical and commercial attention, and one with enormous potential in the burgeoning CDM. EcoSecurities, which is responsible for four of the twelve registered CDM projects worldwide, is ideally placed to help the Central American market and those looking to operate there to realise that potential. Our experience of developing and financing emission reduction projects has given us a unique capability to help asset owners to successfully structure, develop and commercialise these complex initiatives.”
